SOUTHINGTON — Adapting to transform and adversity were central themes for the Southington Significant Faculty graduating course of 2022 on Friday.
But in an unusual twist, faculty and directors also thanked the pupils for demonstrating them resiliency and fortitude in the course of the university shutdowns, hybrid studying, and quarantining through the earlier two years.
“You’ll by no means know the effect you had on us looking at you on the other aspect of Google meets,” stated Teacher of the Calendar year Tina Riccio. “Those are the periods when you manufactured these times for us.”
About 550 learners dressed in blue and white gowns crossed the SHS turf subject to obtain diplomas under a breezy, blue sky.
“Our class had an experience like no other,” reported Valedictorian Amber Kohl. “But we made it and must be proud of ourselves. We had to overcome a major total of change in our four decades and adapt.”
Kohl and other speakers recalled the initially soccer game soon after re-rising from the pandemic. The class acquired and embellished white T-shirts from the neighborhood WalMart.
“That evening, we were being connected,” Kohl stated.
Faculty Superintendent Steven Madancy ceded his speech to give previous Southington Higher Faculty principal, now Assistant Superintendent Frank Pepe, the opportunity to handle the class he is familiar with so nicely. Pepe study a letter addressed to the entire course.
“If you are in hard situations, block out all the bordering sounds and pay attention to that minimal voice in your heads. It is the end result of your ache, tears and activities. Board of Schooling member Colleen Clark instructed the class they had demonstrated they experienced the expertise needed to deal with the highway in advance.
“While on the Covid-19 rollercoaster, you were able to make and continue to keep buddies, do research, and social media and component-time employment,” Clark reported. “You have accomplished what you want to do to get below nowadays, and that is the definition of resilience.”
A person of the course historians, Christopher Dolan, was wanting ahead to graduation and his ongoing scientific tests at the University of Rhode Island in the fall.
“I’m kind of anxious and excited to shift on to the future,” Dolan reported. “But I’m likely to overlook this.”
