SELINSGROVE — Susquehanna College has named Katherine Straub as dean of the School of Organic and Social Sciences.
Straub has been serving as interim dean given that August 2021.
“Kathy has experienced a prolonged and thriving tenure at Susquehanna, and I am thrilled that she will continue on as dean of the School of Organic and Social Sciences completely,” College Provost Dave Ramsaran stated. “Kathy not only has major institutional know-how of Susquehanna, she also has a passion for scholarship and a drive to see Susquehanna develop its horizons and that of its college students. All of this, merged with the esteem in which she is held by her colleagues, makes sure she will lead the School of Normal and Social Sciences to significantly achievement.”
As dean of the School of Organic and Social Sciences, Straub will oversee 8 tutorial departments comprised of 71 school users. She will also be a member of College President Jonathan Green’s Senior Leadership Group, the Provost Council and the College Council.

Straub joined Susquehanna in 2002 as assistant professor of earth and environmental sciences. She was promoted to affiliate professor in 2008 and accomplished complete professor standing in 2014, at which time she was also elected chair of the Division of Earth and Environmental Sciences. In 2017, Straub was named director of Susquehanna’s Middle for Environmental Education and learning and Exploration.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in earth and planetary sciences from Harvard University in 1994. She went on to receive her master’s diploma and doctorate in atmospheric science from Colorado Condition University in 1999 and 2002, respectively.
