Amazing Results for the School of Social Sciences at the Making a Difference Awards

On Tuesday, 10 May perhaps we have been joined by staff, learners, alumni and good friends from all-around the globe to rejoice the unbelievable and inspiring get the job done of our College Community at the Creating a Distinction Awards 2022.

The awards highlighted the in depth array of social responsibility initiative being carried out at The College of Manchester and covered classes these as profit to study, widening participation, environmental sustainability and equality, diversity and inclusion.

Virtually 160 entries ended up submitted this calendar year, with judges recognising 16 winners and 23 extremely counseled.

We are delighted to announce that colleagues in the University of Social Sciences have been the winners of two awards and had been hugely commended for two much more.

Congratulations to Dr Tine Buffel (Sociology), Professor Christopher Phillipson (Sociology) and colleagues at Manchester Urban Study Group (MURAG) for successful the Fantastic Reward to Society through Analysis Award. This challenge highlights the influence of COVID-19 on older people across the area, especially in relation to declining social speak to and inner thoughts of psychological and bodily deterioration.

This project raised general public recognition of the biodiversity of Colombia and its great importance globally by translating all-natural soundscape recordings and bioacoustic information into a new new music album. The global songs and bio-science collaboration set up a remotely organised community with numerous community communities to gather and report sounds and tales from the Colombian Neotropical forests, inviting large profile musicians to develop tracks from the subject recordings.

Thirdly, very well done to Dr Sadia Habib, Investigation Associate at Centre on the Dynamics of Ethnicity (CODE), who was remarkably counseled for her job, Our Shared Cultural Heritage at Manchester Museum, in the fantastic contribution by our cultural establishments award classification.

The challenge aims to make museums and heritage organisations greater destinations for young people to deal with cultural inequalities and showcase cultural heritage from diaspora views. The pandemic shifted Our Shared Cultural Heritage online, creating a safe, optimistic and supportive electronic room for far more younger persons.

Last but not least, we are delighted that Yin Hei Lee (BA Economics, To start with Calendar year), was very counseled in the remarkable contribution to equality, variety and inclusion category for his challenge OneED Group.
